A BAPTISM AT ST BRELADE
Baptisms usually take place during the 10.30am Sunday service, on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Your first contact should be by email to the Church Administrator, Ruth, on [email protected], where you can discuss availability.
A form will then be sent to you to complete and return giving details of Godparents etc.
It would be lovely to see at one of the Little Acorns Family Services on the 4th Sunday of each month at 10.30am before your child is baptised.
There will be some Baptism preparation prior to the Baptism service.
The Rector is always happy to discuss alternative arrangements for pastoral reasons.
Can my child be baptised at St Brelade's Church?
We love to welcome children through baptism at St Brelade’s Church, however to qualify to have your child baptised here you need to be able to demonstrate that you are resident in the Parish of St Brelade.
Ideally a child should be baptised in the parish where they live as that is the beginning of their relationship with their local church. If you are not a St Brelade Resident, we would only hold a Baptism for you if you are current Sunday worshippers here and already a part of our Church Community.

How Many Godparents should we have?
Traditionally, the choice has been two men and one woman for a boy, or two women and one man for a girl. However, some people like to have one or two couples for their children. There are no hard and fast rules, the most important thing is that those you ask understand this is a responsibility which goes beyond the baptism service. You are looking for people who will be there for your child and who are prepared to build a relationship with them for at least the next 20 years.
Please note: For someone to be a Godparent, they must have been baptised themselves as the promises they make on behalf of your child are the same they would make for themselves if they were being baptised. If they aren't baptised, they can be a sponsor, and will still need to be able to make the same promises to follow Jesus. We would be delighted to give you more information and to discuss these options with you.
